Motorola, now owned by Lenovo, hasn’t introduced a smartphone for a while now, but based on a number of rumors and leaks we’ve seen thus far, we assumed that a new Moto smartphone will be arriving soon. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have been leaking heavily over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen several leaked devices and also some partial specs, not to mention the Moto G4 cases that surfaced earlier today. That being said, it seems like Motorola / Lenovo is planning to make the devices official soon, read on.
Motorola India has started sending out invites for their event in New Delhi on May 17th. The invite itself doesn’t exactly reveal what will be announced during the event, but the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus might be inbound. These two devices, as I’ve already mentioned, have been rumored and leaked for the last couple of weeks, and India seems like a perfect place to introduce two entry-level devices. The Moto G (3rd-gen) has been announced back in July last year, alongside the Moto X Play and Moto X Pure / Style. We doubt that Motorola plans to introduce the Moto X Play and Moto X Pure / Style successors on May 17th in India, but the new Moto G devices could certainly be announced at the event.
Now, what can we expect out of the Moto G4 and G4 Plus? Well, we’ve received quite a few conflicting reports thus far. First rumors and leaks that popped up claimed that the Moto G4 will not sport a physical home button up front, much like the Moto G (3rd-gen), and that the Moto G4 Plus will feature a square-shaped physical home key on its front side, and a fingerprint scanner on the inside. Well, a case leak which surfaced earlier today, shared some images of the Moto G4 cases, and the render used sported a physical home key. It is possible that they used the wrong model in that leak, or perhaps used the wrong name of the device, but we cannot know for sure.
Both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are expected to sport 5.5-inch displays, and 16GB of internal storage. The Moto G4, unlike the Moto G4 Plus, will feature a 13-megapixel snapper on the back. The Moto G4 Plus is said to ship with a 16-megapixel main camera, and both of these phones will probably ship with Android Marshmallow. The Black and White models leaked, but you can expect Motorola to offer interchangeable back covers, just like they did with the Moto G (3rd-gen). That’s pretty much it, let’s wait and see what Motorola has to offer on May 17th, and stay tuned for more rumors / leaks before that happens.
