Last year, the ASUS Zenfone 2 took the world by storm for a few reasons. The biggest one was the price. Here we had a 5.5-inch phone with 64GB of storage, an Intel Atom Z3580 processor and 4GB of RAM, all for $299. Making it one of the best bargains on the market. And surprisingly, that Intel Atom chip was actually really great for performance. It’s been over a year since the ASUS Zenfone 2 launched and we have not had an announcement for the Zenfone 3 just yet. However, there are some unofficial renders popping up right now that show what the device could look like. Now these are leaked renders, not conceptual renders, so it’s likely that this could be a taste of what the final product may look like.
According to the leak, we have a LED dual tone flash on the back with the camera, which is unspecified in terms of how many megapixels are included. The device is metal, however there are no antenna lines. Similar to the LG G5 which is metal but does not have antenna lines either. So we might see the antenna lines disappear in the near future. On the backside, there is also a fingerprint reader, which looks a bit strange. It appears to be a rectangle, it’ll be interesting to see how and how well this actually works for ASUS. It would be their first smartphone with a fingerprint sensor.
We also have three capacitive buttons on the front of the Zenfone 3. However the Zenfone 3 Deluxe ditches the middle capacitive button for a physical button. Similar to what Samsung and HTC use on their smartphones. The leak also states that both devices should sport USB Type-C, although that’s not been confirmed, and we are unable to see the charging port in these images.
Keep in mind that ASUS has not announced the Zenfone 3 just yet. There’s no telling when ASUS may announce it, but with Computex happening in ASUS homeland of Taiwan from May 31st through June 4th, it’s possible we may see it announced there. ASUS is no stranger to Computex and routinely announces products there, including smartphones and tablets.
