In the past month, Samsung has offered two promotions centered around its mobile payment solution Samsung Pay, with the most recent being the $30 gift card offer that starts tomorrow for those who are first-time Samsung Pay users. Samsung Pay isn’t the only mobile payment solution offering up a promotion though. Together with Verizon Wireless, Google and Android Pay are offering compatible smartphone owners the opportunity to pick up some free monthly data just for tapping their device to a supported payment terminal and using Android Pay as their form of payment. What’s more is that this promotion starts today whereas Samsung’s begins tomorrow, so there’s less time to wait and users can jump right in. It’s also worth mentioning that users could have a compatible Samsung device on Verizon, use Samsung Pay to get the $30 gift card when the promotion starts, and also use Android Pay to get the free data.
For Verizon customers who will be looking into this promotion, it requires users to complete three Android Pay purchases to get both gigs of data. Verizon is offering 1GB after the first time a customer uses Android Pay to check out, and after the third purchase using the platform to purchase something, they’ll be given the second gig for free as well. Verizon says that the free 2GB of data is good for two billing cycles, so it will need to be used up in that time frame if subscribers want to get the most out of the promotion.
Mobile payments promotions aside, Verizon has other carrier specific promotions going on for free data that can be combined with this Android Pay deal. For customers who are looking to activate or upgrade a brand-new device on the Verizon XL plan or above, they can receive 2GB of free data to share each month at no extra cost, so together with the Android Pay promotion customers would be getting an additional 4GB of data for use for the first two billing cycles. The other requirement for the 2GB of shareable monthly data is that the new phone being activated or upgraded has to be set up on a device payment plan for the customer to be eligible for the offer.
