Garmin Announces the Vivosmart HR+, Priced at $219

Garmin may not be the leader in the wearable market right now, but that doesn’t mean they are going to stop releasing wearables. Just last week, they launched the Vivomove which is a wearable that looks like a watch, but has fitness tracking functionality included. Today, the company announced the Vivosmart HR+, which is basically just adding a heart rate monitor to the Vivosmart, and GPS to the Vivosmart HR. Speaking of the Vivosmart HR, that is priced at $149, and this newer model is priced at $219. This all part of Garmin giving customers more options as far as what they want in a fitness tracker

The new Vivosmart HR+ has the company’s Move IQ software which allows the tracker to automatically detect activities. This is something that Fitbit does as well. The Garmin Vivosmart HR+ can detect when you are doing things like running, walking, biking and much more. Speaking of running, the wearable also has built-in GPS. Combine that with their Move IQ software, and you can have the Vivosmart HR+ automatically map out your run without needing to do anything, other than run. The Vivosmart HR+ is available in black, purple and blue. Garmin touts battery life as five days, but if you are using GPS, then you’ll be limited to about 8 hours (of course, that is with continuous use of GPS). The Vivosmart HR+ is shipping today for $219 – although Amazon does state that it ships in “1-4 months” so be prepared to wait a bit. That’s actually a fairly low price when you consider what is packed into the Vivosmart HR+, and compare it with its competition – like the Fitbit Alta, which doesn’t have a heart rate monitor nor GPS. The Vivosmart HR+ does work with both Android and iOS.

Garmin makes a slew of wearables. These include things like full fitness watches, fitness bands and even smartwatches that have fitness tracking capabilities, like the Vivomove. Garmin, who was once known for their GPS units, has become a pretty big name in the wearable space. Although they aren’t big enough to dethrone Fitbit, or Apple – who are currently the big manufacturers of wearables – Garmin does offer something for everyone and then some.
