Moto G4 Play Announced with Snapdragon 410, 5" Display & More

This morning, Motorola and Lenovo held an event in India where they announced the brand new Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. This is the fourth-generation of what is perhaps their most popular line of smartphones ever. The Moto G4 gained a bit more screen real-estate as well as a slightly higher price this time around. But Motorola also unveiled a third model for the Moto G family, joining the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. That is the Moto G4 Play.

As was the case with the Moto X Style and Moto X Play last year, the Moto G4 Play is a slightly lower-specced version of the Moto G4. We’re looking at a smaller display here, with a 5-inch screen instead of the 5.5-incher on the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. The display is also a 720p panel instead of a 1080p panel. The other differences lie in the processor and camera. Where the Moto G4 Play sports a 8-megapixel camera on the back, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus both sport a 13-megapixel camera and a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor.

The full specs here are still pretty impressive, although no pricing has been announced yet. The Moto G4 Plus is going for around $200 in India. So we should see the Moto G4 Play a bit cheaper. Other specs for the Moto G4 Play include a 5-megapixel front-facing camera along with a 2800mAh battery. Of course, the Moto G4 Play also sports Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Like the Moto G4, the Moto G4 Play does not have a fingerprint sensor. That feature is reserved for the Moto G4 Plus, which is the most expensive of the three smartphones.

These three Moto G devices were announced in India and Brazil this morning. There has been no mention of when it’ll come to other areas of the world. However, Lenovo is holding an event in San Francisco in a few weeks, where we should see the Moto G4 family (and perhaps the new Moto X) alongside some new products from Lenovo. So we’d expect to hear more about an American release around that time.
