The 2016 Samsung Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 have been officially announced a couple of months ago in March, but the duo appears to be only half the story of the J series. More evidence points at the upcoming release of a second Samsung Galaxy J2 model, which seems to have recently passed through the FCC for approval, indicating what might be a US release just around the corner.
To be precise, the FCC database recently filed a new Samsung smartphone identified by model number “SM-J210F”. While the documents make no mention of the “Galaxy J2” per se, the model number suggests that the smartphone at hand should be none other than the 2016 Samsung Galaxy J2. The original Galaxy J2 launched last year carried model number(s) “SM-J200F”, “SM-J200Y”, “SM-J200H” and so on, depending on the region it was released in. In any case, sadly the FCC documents don’t seem to shed any new light on the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016)’s hardware specifications. However, the same “SM-J210F” was spotted in the AnTuTu benchmark database earlier this month, rocking a display with an unspecified diagonal and a resolution of 1280 x 720, a Spreadtrum SC8830 quad-core CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz per core, a Mali-400 graphics chip, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and an 8-megapixel primary camera complemented by a 5-megapixel front-facing sensor. Last but not least, AnTuTu lists the smartphone as running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
Quite obviously, the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016) shapes up to be a rather decent low-end smartphone – at least on paper – with plenty of RAM for multitasking to a certain degree, and the latest Android OS version on-board. While there’s no official word regarding the smartphone’s market debut, the terminal’s visit to the Federal Communications Commission suggests that Samsung is preparing to launch the Samsung Galaxy J2 sequel sooner rather than later. It’s also worth noting that the “SM-J210F” model number might be reserved for Turkey and the UAE region, much like the “SM-J200F” was last year. Either way, judging by the SoC under the hood – the Spreadtrum SC8830 -, the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016) or at least the “SM-J210F” variant will not support 4G LTE connectivity.
