If you happen to own the LG G5, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, or the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ on the Verizon Wireless network, then you’re in for some software updates that have started to roll out to subscribers today. Verizon has begun to push over-the-air updates to these three devices, although not all will be revolving around the same things. It’s also worth noting that none of these are updates to Marshmallow as both Samsung devices should already have it, and the LG G5 ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. That means the update file sizes are going to be pretty small, and the changes won’t be anything over the top, but they are likely necessary updates to improve the overall performance of the device, and with better performance comes a better user experience, generally.
Even though the software updates are small, it’s still a good idea to have the device connected to a local WiFi network for the download and have as much battery life as possible before doing the update. In regards to the LG G5, the software update brings in updates to the visual voicemail feature, which includes new icons that aim to make using the app a little easier. The new icons will be for the speaker and the volume management. Verizon has also enhanced airplane mode security, and Verizon has updated the device to detail data used by Microsoft Exchange Active Server.
With the two Samsung devices, things are mostly the same although there is at least one thing on the Galaxy Note 5 that is different. This update introduces a fix for the “no SIM card detected” issue that some users have been experiencing. Beyond this fix for the Galaxy Note 5, the software update for it and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ introduce the latest Android Security Patch, and there are also improvements to the audio on voice calls and video calls for both devices. If you haven’t seen the updates for any of the three devices show up in your status bar, you can always opt to check and see if you can pull the software down manually by navigating to settings, then about phone, and then tapping on software update.
