Virtual reality may have a focus on gaming at the moment when it comes to the majority of content, but there is plenty to enjoy that doesn’t have to do with gaming. One trip through the Oculus store on the Samsung Gear VR would reveal plenty of 3D and 360-degree videos as well as movies and apps like Netflix. VR is also being used for theme park rides through the HTC Vive, and now HTC has entered into a partnership with singer-songwriter Bjork, where she will debut a unique Album experience on the HTC Vive during her digital tour.
During the digital tour, which starts today and begins in Sydney, Australia, Bjork will showcase what is now her fourth virtual reality video from her Vulnicura album that was released last year, and will eventually launch the entire Vulnicura album in VR, albeit a date was not mentioned for this specific release. In addition to the full VR album, the clips showcased during the digital tour will be available for people to download in VR in the future as well, and alongside the premier of the fourth VR music video from Vulnicura, the first three will also be available for viewing by attending guests.
HTC is committed to making the Vive a truly immersive experience for users, and they wanted to take this opportunity to work with Bjork to bring a unique experience to fans, according to HTC’s Senior Vice President of Virtual Reality, Rikard Steiber. While VR experiences like this one is not one of many, it still goes to show that companies and individual creators from various industries are embracing VR technology and are using it to deliver immersive content in ways that were previously not possible. In a market that, at the moment, seems to cater heavily to gamers and tech enthusiasts, music artists like Bjork are bringing something to the table that just might entice a whole new group of the market, even if it doesn’t convince them to buy a VR headset of their own right away. Meanwhile, companies like IMAX are working to integrate VR into the theater and show off films in VR.
