The OnePlus 3 has been announced yesterday. This is OnePlus’ newest smartphone and also their third-gen flagship. The OnePlus 3 is the first OnePlus-branded handset to be available invite-free from the get-go, and the phone really does have plenty to offer. OnePlus has managed to stuff in high-end specs into this handset, and keep its price really affordable. The OnePlus 3 costs $399 in the US, and the pricing in other markets is quite similar, though a bit more expensive.
We have plenty of OnePlus 3 coverage on the site already, and yet new info keeps on coming. OnePlus’s co-founder, Carl Pei, answered a bunch of questions on Reddit as part of ‘Ask Me Anything’, and one of the questions was about OnePlus’ Optic AMOLED display. One Reddit user asked OnePlus to explain how does this ‘Optic AMOLED’ display differ from regular AMOLED panels which are already available in the market. Carl Pei said the following: “We’ve taken Super AMOLED and added our take on contrast and color temperature, to try and bring it more true to life. In addition, we’ve designed its performance profile to work well when outdoors in bright conditions“. So, the Optic AMOLED display is essentially a regular Super AMOLED panel with tweaked contrast and color temperature. People probably won’t mind OnePlus chose to name a slightly tweaked Super AMOLED panel differently, most of you are probably glad OnePlus opted to include an AMOLED panel here instead of an IPS one.
The OnePlus 3 sports a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) Optic AMOLED display, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, along with the Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. The 16-megapixel OIS snapper can be found on the back of this phone, and an 8-megapixel shooter is available up front. The 3,000mAh battery is also included here, and it comes with OnePlus’ Dash Charge fast charging technology. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the OnePlus 3, and on top of it, you’ll find OnePlus’ Oxygen OS skin which is essentially stock Android with some additional features.
