Huawei Responds To Sales Goal Reduction Reports

Huawei is the largest Chinese smartphone manufacturer on a global scale. This company enjoyed great success last year, they’ve not only managed to sell 108 million smartphones, but have also managed to become the world’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer, which is a great feat for this company. Huawei had already introduced a number of compelling smartphones this year, including their Huawei P9 and P9 Plus flagships, and the Honor 8 mid-ranger is about to arrive really soon as well.

That being said, recent reports suggested that Huawei decided to reduce their smartphone sales goal from 140 million to 120 million. This info was never confirmed by the company, but Huawei felt obligated to respond to this in one way or the other, so they reached out to us with an official statement. Huawei once again reiterated that they don’t comment on rumors and speculation, but have decided to release their sales numbers in order to give us a good idea of how well the company is doing, and basically refute any negative reports that may have surfaced recently. In their e-mail, Huawei said that they’ve been able to ship out 28.3 million smartphones in the first quarter of the year, which represents a 64% increase compared to last year. The company had also shipped 2.6 million P9 and P9 Plus smartphones in only 6 weeks after they were introduced. That being said, if we compare the Huawei P8 and P9 / P9 Plus shipments in that time period, we’ll notice that the shipments increased 130%, which are also great news for the company. It seems like Huawei managed to sell most P9 and P9 Plus units in France, Finland, Poland, Thailand and the UK.

On top of all this, the company has also reaffirmed that they’re diversifying into new device categories, like they did with the MateBook 2-in-1 PC earlier this year. That is more or less it, Huawei did not exactly refute recent reports, but considering they’ve managed to sell 108 million smartphones last year, and their sales rose quite a bit this year (64% in the first quarter), it is still possible that the company will be able to hit the 140 million sales goal, but we’ll have to wait until the end of the year in order to be sure.
