According to a recent rumor, it would appear that Google is preparing to launch an application for Nexus devices in the future that will allow consumers to access live support from a trained professional right on the device. While there isn’t currently much detail in regards to how the application will work, it could work similar to the Mayday feature that can be found on Amazon’s lineup of compatible Fire tablets. The new app, reportedly called Google Support at this time, would be a live support app where users could request help from someone for things like solving an issue or setting up a feature, and could potentially launch with the upcoming Nexus devices that are rumored to launch later this year alongside Android N.
Google Support also reportedly comes with a screen sharing feature that would allow the person helping the consumer to see the user device so that they might better assist with the issue at hand, whatever that might be. Users will of course, will probably have to opt in for the screen sharing to take place, and presumably if they don’t allow the agent to see their display the live support wouldn’t be available as it seems to be centered around the screen share option.
In addition to live support, the app could provide the help to users 24/7 just like Amazon offers with Mayday meaning that users would be able to get assistance with their Nexus problems no matter what time of day it is. With basically no detail about the app other than the fact that it seems to exist it’s unclear exactly what it will offer beyond the scope of what the name suggests. With live support though, it’s entirely possible that agents will be able to take control of the device from the user requesting help and direct them on how to fix whatever issue it is they’re seeking help with. When and if this app actually launches, it isn’t likely that it will expand beyond Nexus devices for compatibility, so those with a non-Nexus device would have to continue looking elsewhere for help on fixing issues with their smartphones and tablets.
