The OnePlus 3 Lets You Take a Selfie By Simply Smiling

The OnePlus 3 was announced today, and its spec sheet is pretty stunning. OnePlus was able to include the latest Qualcomm processor in the Snapdragon 820, they paired that with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Not to mention the fact that there is a 16-megapixel camera on the back, which is the Sony IMX298 sensor, and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera which is the Sony IMX179 sensor. All of this for just $399, that’s a pretty incredible price for what you’re getting. Since the OnePlus 3 is running on OxygenOS (which is based off of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow), we do have a somewhat customized camera experience here.

With the OnePlus 3, the company is debuting their ‘Smart Capture’ Technology. Which is a suite of features that is available through the camera. The sole purpose of Smart Capture is to take the perfect photo, without needing to mess around with the settings too much. Dynamic De-noise is a feature in the OnePlus 3 which will automatically work in the background to reduce noise in post-processing of these images you take. There’s also Auto HDR Mode, which will automatically take your picture in HDR if the conditions are ideal for HDR. This way you get a pretty well-balanced photo without even needing to think about turning on or off the HDR feature. This feature can actually be disabled, if you decide you don’t want it turned on. HD Mode is another feature here, which is a setting that can be toggled on and off, and allows you to enhance the image detail, as well as sharpen lines and increase the clarity in your photos.

This last part of Smart Capture is likely going to be the most popular one. This feature is in regards to taking selfies with the front-facing 8-megapixel camera here. Smile Capture allows you to turn on the camera, and just smile for the picture to be taken. We’ve seen gestures for taking selfies before, but Smile Capture is perhaps the easiest to actually carry out. Considering most people are going to be smiling when taking a selfie anyways.

OnePlus has also added manual controls in the OnePlus 3. So if you’re a photographer who likes to be able to control your settings on each picture you take, you’ll be taken care of there. Additionally, the OnePlus 3 also supports RAW images. For those that aren’t aware, shooting in RAW format means that there is no post-processing done. You’re essentially getting the “raw” version of the photo. Allowing you to edit to your hearts content in apps like Snapseed, Adobe Lightroom and others.

The OnePlus 3 is available today at just $399, and it looks like the 16-megapixel camera on the OnePlus 3 is definitely going to be one to be excited about.
