The OnePlus 3 was announced quite recently, and it managed to surprise quite a few people despite the fact we knew pretty much everything about it before it arrived. The OnePlus 3 received mostly positive reviews, it packs in premium specs, is made out of premium materials, and it’s quite a bit more affordable than its competitors. The OnePlus 3 costs only $399, and it ships with a 5.5-inch fullHD Optic AMOLED display, a whopping 6GB of RAM, and it is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor. The phone’s 16-megapixel OIS camera is quite capable, and the phone even has a layer of ceramic on top of its capacitive home button / fingerprint scanner, which is a nice touch by OnePlus as well.

The device did receive some criticism recently, mainly due to its RAM management, even though OnePlus did that on purpose in order to offer longer battery life. Carl Pei had plenty to say regarding OnePlus 3 criticism recently, and now the company has confirmed that a new OTA update is on the way. Now, do keep in mind that this is not a consumer OTA update, this update will be dispatched to special review units only, units which were sent to various tech media sites, amongst others. The OxygenOS version 3.1.4 will hit review units, and will address some display and RAM management issues. Some reviewers claimed that the OnePlus 3’s display is ‘inaccurate’, and even though most reviews praised the display, OnePlus has decided to address that issue, along with the RAM management we’ve already mentioned.
The company has confirmed that the consumer OTA update will be released ‘later on’, and that the company will take reviewers’ feedback into consideration before they tweak the consumer OTA update. The update will enable the sRGB mode on the OnePlus 3, and it will be accessible through the phone’s Developer Options. This mode will essentially tone down the colors on the OnePlus 3, which should make them less ‘inaccurate’, as some reviewers claimed they are at the moment. The company’s Community Manager, Adam Krisko, actually decided to share a couple of images which show the comparison between the display colors in the current update, and after you apply the sRGB mode, and there’s quite a difference between the two, as you can see in the gallery down below. We’re still not sure how will the RAM management be handled in the new update, but the company did say that it will be less aggressive, and that it will be able to fire up games faster than it currently can. On top of all this, the update also brings a number of other optimizations which were not detailed by the company.
