OPPO is one of the largest smartphone vendors from China, and although the vast majority of its sales come from its home country, the company is a budding multinational, with operations across Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. The company was founded back in 2004, and has gone from strength to strength over the dozen years of its existence. While OPPO has a number of smartphones in the market, one of its most popular products is the OPPO F1 Plus, which was launched in March this year. The device is also known as the OPPO R9 in the company’s home market, and is believed to have gotten a pretty decent reception from smartphone buyers in the country. It is now the turn of OPPO’s vice-president, Mr. Alen Wu, to shed some light on exactly how popular the all-new OPPO phablet is in China.
According to a revelation from Mr. Wu at an OPPO press event in Shanghai earlier this week, the company has managed to ship a whopping 7 million units of the F1 Plus since its launch in March. That equals to a sale every 1.1 seconds on average, which is something the company seems to be fairly proud of. The device is positioned as a ‘selfie-expert’, and comes with a 16-megapixel front-facing selfie-cam as it USP. Remarkably, the rear-facing camera on the device comes with a smaller, 13-megapixel sensor. The rest of the tech-specs include a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Helio P10 SoC, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.
While many reasons have been attributed to OPPO’s continued success in China, Mr. Wu claimed that innovation in product design and attention to details are amongst the most important reasons for the company’s growing market share. Mr Wu also revealed some of the details regarding the VOOC flash charge technology that can be found in the F1 Plus. According to a press release by OPPO, the battery on the F1 Plus retains at least 80% of its capacity “through a full 900 (charge) cycles”, which is 1.8 times higher than the accepted industry standard of 500 charge cycles. What’s more, Mr. Wu claimed that all components that go into OPPO phones are tested thoroughly for quality and longevity before being used. According to the press release, one of those components happen to be the microUSB charging ports on OPPO devices that go through a series of stress tests to ensure they don’t lose any functionality even after years of usage.
