RootMetrics is one of many companies (including OpenSignal, Nielsen and others) that goes around the country doing speed tests and reliability tests on the four national carriers in the US, to show us who’s really the best in each area. They’ve been doing it for quite some time, and due to how long the tests take, we only get about two reports a year from the company. Now, RootMetrics is explaining how they do their testing of the four wireless carriers for these reports.
The company tests the four mobile networks in 125 markets across the United States. These tests are done both indoors and outdoors – since networks can differ greatly inside versus outside – and they use five different metrics. These include network reliability, network speed, data performance, call performance and text performance. The company hasn’t put out their H1 2016 report just yet, that’s expected to be available in late August. But they did mention that Verizon has the top scores so far this year. Which include outright victories in markets like San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Portland, Miami, Los Angeles, Detroit and Boston. They did also share that AT&T is currently in the second position with T-Mobile third and Sprint in a distant fourth position.
If you look back at their last report, Verizon came out on top, and it appears that Verizon is sticking to that top spot. In a time where wireless carriers are seeing loads of competition, it’s a good thing for Verizon that they are continuing to work on their network and make it better each and every day.
RootMetrics is currently a reliable and popular source for data for Verizon. If you’ve listened to any of their recent commercials, you’ll know that they are banking on RootMetrics recent reports. Which isn’t a bad thing, considering RootMetrics is an independent company, so their results aren’t skewed to make Verizon look better than AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile, even if a certain CEO believes so. RootMetrics does a great job at providing customers with the most up-to-date information on these networks, as possible. And that will continue with their H1 2016 report, coming in August.
