After many rumors and leaks about the Galaxy S7 Active, AT&T and Samsung finally made it official. This morning the device was announced, and turns out to be more than just a Galaxy S7 in a different casing. As with the last few “Active” models, this is still an AT&T exclusive, unfortunately for those on other carriers. And now we have the full spec sheet available.
We’re looking at a 5.1-inch 2560×1440 resolution Super AMOLED shatter-resistant display. This is only the second smartphone to have a shatter-resistant display, behind the Motorola Droid Turbo 2/Moto X Force, that debuted last year. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (which is made up of two dual-core clusters. One clocked at 2.15GHz and the other at 1.6GHz) processor along with 4GB of RAM. Samsung has included 32GB of internal storage, along with a micro SD card slot that supports up to 200GB of additional storage. And it is running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the latest version of Touchwiz.
When it comes to the cameras, we have a 12-megapixel Dual-Pixel camera with LED Flash, autofocus, and a f/1.7 aperture included. The front-facing camera is a 5-megapixel camera with Selfie-flash and a f/1.7 aperture as well. We also have a 4000mAh battery inside, with Adaptive Fast Charging and Qi Wireless Charging. Like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, there’s no Quick Charge 3.0 support here. We’re looking at IP68 for water and dust resistance. It also has a military grade body (MIL STD-810G), which makes it pretty rugged and able to take a few drops. Like with past versions of the “Active”, there is a customizable Active key on the side of the smartphone. The Galaxy S7 Active measures in at about 148.8 x 75.0 x 9.9mm and weighs just 185g.
As far as connectivity goes, we have NFC, MST (for Samsung Pay), FM Tuner, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/r 2.4GHz and 5GHz. There’s also Bluetooth 4.2 with a micro USB port. Sensors include an Acclerometer, Barometer, Gyro, Geomagnetic, Heart Rate, Proximity, RGB, Fingerprint Scanner, GPS, aGPS, and GLONASS. And for those that may be wondering, the Galaxy S7 Active supports these bands:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900
3G-UMTS 850, 900, 1900, 2100
LTE 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 20, 29, 30, 38, 39, 40, 41
The Galaxy S7 Active is going to be on sale at AT&T beginning on June 10th. It is exclusive to the carrier, and will cost you $26.50 per month on AT&T Next, and $33.13 per month on AT&T Next Every Year.
