Wileyfox Unveils New "Spark" Smartphone Line for the UK

Earlier today during a launch event in London, British smartphone manufacturer Wileyfox unveiled its newest smartphone lineup bearing the “Spark” moniker. The company introduced the Wileyfox Spark, Spark +, and Wileyfox Spark X, with prices ranging from £89.99 to £129.99. The new models are now listed on the manufacturer’s website, where one of the three variants is already available to pre-order. This sort of pricing makes the new Spark lineup more affordable than the Wileyfox Swift, a formidable device in its own right.

The entry level Wileyfox Spark is equipped with a 5-inch IPS LCD display bearing a resolution of 1280 x 720, resulting in a pixel density of ~294 pixels per inch. The handset is powered by a MediaTek MT6735 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at frequencies of up to 1.3 GHz, a Mali T720 graphics chip, and 1 GB of RAM. Storage-wise it has 8 GB of on-board memory and features a microSD card slot for an additional 32 GB of external storage. The handset also includes an 8-megapixel main camera with AutoFocus and an LED flash, as well as an 8 MP front-facing sensor. Next up is the Wileyfox Spark + which, although shares a handful of similarities with the low-entry model, it bumps the amount of RAM to 2GB, on-board storage to 16 GB, and includes a more generous 13-megapixel main camera not unlike last year’s Wileyfox Swift. Last but certainly not least, the top-of-the-range Wileyfox Spark X carries a larger 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with the same resolution of 1280 x 720, as well as a larger 3,000 mAh battery promising up to 200 hours of standby in dual-SIM mode, or up to 290 hours in single-SIM mode. All three models are protected by Dragontrail glass covering their displays, they benefit from dual-SIM capabilities and support 4G connectivity, and run CyanogenOS 13 out of the box – a custom OS developed by Cyanogen and based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The platform offers a wider range of customization options while remaining true to the core values of Google’s stock Android OS.

As far as pricing goes, the Wileyfox Spark costs £89.99, the Wileyfox Spark + will launch for £114.99, and the Wileyfox Spark X will be available for £129.99. Prospective customers can now pre-order the Wileyfox Spark in Sandstone Black or White flavors, or pre-register their interest for the Wileyfox Spark + and Spark X which should become available at a later date.
