The OnePlus 3 is the latest smartphone to come from OnePlus and to those who have encountered the device so far, it seems to be meeting with expectations and in some respects, exceeding them. One area in particular, is that of charging speeds. The predecessor, the OnePlus 2, became notorious for this as it was a device which did not launch with any form of advanced or faster charging and at a time when major devices were boasting such features. As such, those who migrate from the OnePlus 2 to the OnePlus 3 will no doubt see a massive improvement in how long it takes to charge the latest OnePlus phone. In no small part, thanks to Dash Charge.
This is the OnePlus technology which makes faster charging possible with speeds on offer said to be in the region of 0 to 60-percent in as little as thirty minutes. However, since the release of the OnePlus 3, there has been one glaring issue with Dash Charge (from the point of view of those who like to tinker with their smartphones). The issue being that OnePlus has not released the kernel code for Dash Charge. Code needed to ensure that third party ROMs and the likes can still make use of the feature when flashed onto the OnePlus 3.
In spite of not releasing the code, OnePlus were quick to announce that they would release the code in due course and naming July as the time when it would arrive. With July now coming to a close, OnePlus has made good on that promise and released the kernel code to GitHub, which will now allow ROM developers for the OnePlus 3 to add in the support so users can still make use of the advanced charging speeds. This is not to say though that Dash Charge has fully been ‘opened up’. As to make use of the faster charging speeds, device owners will still need to be using OnePlus branded hardware which is capable of delivering the faster charge rate, like the cables and adapters. Nevertheless, if you had been waiting for the time when you can flash an alternative ROM and still make use of Dash Charge, that time has just taken a massive step closer – presuming the ROM you are using is about to include the recently released support code.
