Today, streaming music service Deezer is opening its services to U.S. consumers to compete with other top-name offerings like Spotify, Pandora, and Google Play Music. Deezer, which is based in France, now allows anyone who is interested in giving it a try to sign up for the service which begins first with a 30-day trial period much like other streaming music services, and after the month trial is over with subscribers would end up paying $9.99 a month to continue. While the service is just now opening up to the whole of the U.S. market, the app itself has been available to download and install prior to today, and it’s been available as an Android Auto compatible service as well as an open service for Cricket Wireless customers since earlier this year.
For the $10 a month that it costs to set the service up, users get access to unlimited streaming music from a fairly massive library of music which includes a total of 40 million songs from nearly any genre that you could think of. Much like you can do with the paid services for Google Play Music and Spotify, Deezer allows users to download songs and playlists for offline listening, which makes it perfect for times when there’s no internet connection to keep the stream open and running.
Now that Deezer is opening up its service to all consumers in the U.S., they’ll be able to expand on their already extensive user base, which consists of 70 million free subscribers and 30 million paid subscribers, both of which are global numbers. Although Deezer definitely has some benefits to it, which includes a larger music library than Spotify and Google Play Music as well as a decent UI, entering fully into the U.S. is not going to be without a challenge as much of the streaming music market is already controlled by other options which are likely just as good. Nevertheless, a full U.S. launch of Deezer feels like a long time coming and there are bound to be some new customers who have been waiting to test it out. If you’re one of those customers, you can pick up the app from the Play Store.
