Galaxy Note 7 Specs Are Being Leaked In A Reddit AMA

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is having its specifications leaked in an AMA over on Reddit. If you’re not familiar with Reddit or the AMAs that take place there, Reddit is a forum of sorts where there are tons of threads on just about any topic. The AMA, or Ask Me Anything, is a post where people answer questions about a given topic. In this particular case, a user on Reddit who claims to have handled the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 today is letting other users ask them about the phablet, a device which has yet to receive an official announcement from Samsung, although an unveiling of the phone is scheduled to take place next week during Samsung’s Unpacked event in New York City.

The first thing that is worth mentioning is that there is no way to verify the answers given are legitimate. Having said that, plenty of the specifications do match up with the leaked specifications which were reported on earlier this morning, so there’s a good chance that some of if not most of the details are true. Specs listed in the AMA include things like the Galaxy Note 7 having a USB C port, the 3,500 mAh battery, the advanced S Pen features that allow you to type notes and have them auto-translated into other languages, and a few more like the available color variants that the device will come in. What wasn’t mentioned in the earlier leak was whether or not the Gold color would be available globally, although it was something that was alluded to in our earlier post as a possibility of being a non-U.S. model. According to the AMA, the Gold color Galaxy Note 7 will not be available in the U.S. It was also hinted that there may end up being a Rose Gold model launched later on in the year.

The launch date, which was mentioned in the earlier post states that the Galaxy Note 7 will launch on August 19th, however no specifics to carriers are mentioned here like in the prior leak which highlights T-Mobile, so there is a chance that August 19th is the global launch date for any carrier or retail outlet. Best Buy will reportedly be one of those retail outlets and will be offering a promotion where Galaxy Note 7 buyers will get a 256GB microSD card or a Gear Fit2 for free. Pre-orders for the device are also allegedly starting on August 3rd, one day after the announcement. If true, the pre-orders will be live next Wednesday. The post also bolsters the notion that there is no flat model of the Galaxy Note 7, something which may not be too shocking as this has been speculated for a little while now.

The Galaxy Note 7 is said to come with 64GB of internal storage with no other size variants, although it does support expandable storage as expected. As for the software, the device will come running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, and will reportedly come powered by the same processor and RAM as the Galaxy S7, which suggests that the Galaxy Note 7 will have 4GB of RAM and come with a Snapdragon 820 chip, despite the rumors of a possible Snapdragon 821 inside. Lastly, the AMA also mentions that there will be a new version of the Gear VR announced alongside the Galaxy Note 7, and although none of this official, most of these rumors aren’t being detailed for the first time. Again, since this is an AMA on Reddit and it isn’t officially Samsung answering these questions, take the specs with a grain of salt, but most of the details do seem to match up with what’s already been heard, and it’s worth mentioning that the poster, named Samsungsmart, was responsible for leaking the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge prior to their official announcements.
