Galaxy Note 7 Specs Leaked Alongside August 19th Launch Date

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 is rumored to be launching on August 19th on the T-Mobile network, as a new rumor suggests that Samsung will release the phone a couple of weeks after the announcement that is due to happen at Samsung’s Unpacked event next week on August 2nd. While the launch date was already suspected to be a couple of weeks after the announcement, no dates had yet been rumored up until now. The launch date was not the only bit of detail about the upcoming phablet revealed, however, as a laundry list of specifications has also been leaked alongside it, all of which seem to match up with previous rumors that have already been speculated.

According to an anonymous source who has been “confirmed to have actually seen the device,” the Galaxy Note 7 will come equipped with a 5.7-inch Quad HD display using Samsung’s Super AMOLED panel. The display will be protected by Gorilla Glass 5 which Corning boasts will be able to prevent damage on up to 80 percent of drops from a shoulder height, making the Galaxy Note 7 screen fairly resistant to scratches, cracks, and the like. The specs listed for the camera are a 12MP camera on the back as well as a 5MP camera on the front, although no other camera details were mentioned. It is likely, however, that the rear camera will be dual pixel and include things like phase detection autofocus, OIS, etc. and the front camera should feature the selfie flash like feature that can be found on both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

Past rumors had pegged the Galaxy Note 7 as coming with a 3,500 mAh battery, and according to today’s details that seems to be the case. It’s also stated to come with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, and it will come running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. While Samsung has never used USB Type-C on any of their devices before, it appears that the Galaxy Note 7 will be the first device to include the connection type as past rumor have suggested, and it will apparently come with a microUSB to USB C adapter. The fingerprint sensor, gyro, accelerometer, and proximity sensor are all on board, and the iris scanner is also listed to be present, although this was more or less suspected since screenshots of the settings screen showing the iris scanner as an unlock option showed up back on Sunday. Wi-Fi will support all the way up to the ac standard, and NFC is included as well as is Bluetooth.

The leak also seems to confirm the names of the colors which have been leaked in the renders, which will be Blue Coral, Onyx, and Silver Titanium. Since there was a recent render leaked showing off a Gold color but it isn’t mentioned in the leak, it’s possible that it will not be a launch model or it may only launch in specific regions. While most of these specs had been rumored before, a couple of new details have popped up, stating that the S Pen will be able to write notes which will auto translate into other languages and that Samsung will be packaging the Galaxy Note 7 with a service called Samsung Cloud, which is presumably a cloud backup storage service, and all Galaxy Note 7 owners will reportedly get 5GB free, which is likely a limited time thing. It isn’t immediately clear whether or not Samsung Cloud is the same as the “Cloud Together” name that was trademarked recently by the company. Lastly, it’s also being stated that the Galaxy Note 7 will not have a flat variant, and will only launch in the model that comes with the dual curved edge display.
