Leak: Lenovo Moto Z Play Shows Its Face

While Lenovo announced two new smartphones under the “Moto” brand at Lenovo Tech World last month in San Francisco, that doesn’t mean that’s all the company has for 2016. Leading up to the Lenovo Tech World event in June, there were plenty of leaks about the Moto Z Play, which was said to be a lower-end smartphone – when compared to the Moto Z – but with a massive battery. Basically like the Moto X Style and the Moto X Play were last year.

Now it looks like the Moto Z Play may be releasing pretty soon, or at least announced. HelloMotoHK over on Google+ have posted a number of pictures of the device. For those that haven’t heard of them before, they are pretty popular for leaking Motorola (now Lenovo) products. Including the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. What’s interesting about these pictures is that they are sporting Lenovo’s “One UI” which is only being used in China. Now this could mean that the Moto Z Play will only be sold in China, or it may be sold elsewhere but with Moto’s typical software – which is basically stock Android.

This leak doesn’t give us much information about the Moto Z Play, other than the fact that it looks like Lenovo is keeping with the design language that they used with the Moto Z and Moto Z Force that just launched on Verizon this week. However it does show “Moto Vector” on the back of the device. As you might recall, “Vector” was the codename of one of the two Moto devices that were heavily rumored and talked about ahead of Lenovo’s Tech World conference. Another interesting tidbit is that the “About” screen lists this device as the “Moto X Play”. It also looks like Moto Mods would work with the Moto Z Play. As you can see the pins and connectors are located at the bottom of the device there. Which likely also means that it also sports a 5.5-inch display like the other two Moto Z smartphones.

It’s unclear whether this device will ever be made official, but it does definitely look like Lenovo is working on a third member of the Moto Z family.
