Samsung is currently in the process of testing a new iteration of its TouchWiz mobile user interface. Dubbed “Note UX”, this UI will likely come pre-installed on the upcoming Galaxy Note 7 phablet which is slated to be announced and likely released next month. The Note UX has already leaked online last week but as the South Korean smartphone manufacturer just started rolling it out to Note 5 beta testers in its home country, we now have some more information on it. For starters, the UI is being rolled out as a part of the so-called Project Grace program and looks rather similar to the last officially released iteration of Samsung’s mobile UI.
As for the changes, the TouchWiz Note UX seems to have more consistent and generally smoothed out icons in comparison to its predecessor. While there are already some complaints about the new icons looking too “cartoonish”, the end product definitely seems more aesthetically consistent. The status bar quick menu now also has a useful blue light filter button and the Action Memo and S Note got merged into a single “Notes” app.
Unfortunately, there’s still no word on when Project Grace TouchWiz Note UX will make its way to older Samsung devices though it’s almost certain that won’t happen before September, i.e. after the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 hits the shelves worldwide. Naturally, the final edition of the UI could still be significantly changed as the interface depicted below is still in beta.
As for the Galaxy Note 7 itself, the device is rumored to feature a 5.7 or 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels, 6 GB of RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 system-on-chip, while the Exynos version will boast the Exynos 8893 SoC. Other than that, sources report that Samsung will equip its upcoming tablet with a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The smartphone is expected to be announced by Samsung early next month.
