Samsung will soon be adding a new member to their Galaxy S7 Edge lineup. The Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition, which up until recently was only a rumor, is reportedly coming soon. While no release date has yet been officially confirmed, the Samsung Mobile Deutschland Facebook page seems to strongly suggest a release date of July 7 with their post, which says “07.07.2016. Ge7 ready”. Samsung has also released a teaser video. Though the teaser itself does not provide any additional information about the device, it does support the expectation that the device will be revealed at the event.
The Galaxy S7 Edge sports a 5.5 inch 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED curved display, Snapdragon 820 chipset (Exynos 8890 in other areas), 4GB of RAM, a 3600mAh battery, support for removable storage and IP68 dust and waterproof certification. While it is suspected that this device will match the specs of the standard Galaxy S7 Edge, with the only changes being to the physical design, no hardware details are known at this point. The price has not been officially announced yet either, nor the markets in which the device will be available. The physical design of the device has not yet been confirmed, however, the leaked press renders shown below should give us some idea what to expect. The renders show a black body with a gold accent in the same gorgeous metal and glass frame as the standard Galaxy S7 Edge. A blue outline highlights the camera and the flash, and a small blue Olympic Games logo can be found on the bottom of the back panel. The Olympic Edition Galaxy S7 Edge is being released as part of Samsung’s partnership with the Olympic Games, in commemoration of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
This is not the first time Samsung has released a limited edition Galaxy S7 Edge handset; in June they revealed the Injustice Edition of the Galaxy S7 Edge, featuring Batman-inspired design, UI, and accessories. And last year Samsung took a similar approach with the Limited Edition Iron Man Galaxy S6 Edge. Although limited editions in the past have typically been a bit more expensive than the standard models, they offer a unique way to make your device stand out from the crowd.
