T-Mobile Brings the Home Run Derby to Customers in VR

Virtual Reality has become the “next big thing” in the last few years. Samsung, HTC, LG, Oculus, Google and many others companies have all gotten their feet wet in virtual reality, and now we’re seeing T-Mobile do the same. T-Mobile is a sponsor of the MLB (or Major League Baseball), and their annual All-Star game takes place next week on July 12th. Of course, the All-Star game isn’t all that the MLB has planned for the weekend. The Home Run Derby is set for the night before the All-Star game, on July 11th. And today, T-Mobile announced what they are doing for the Home Run Derby for their customers. And that is, essentially putting their customers in the batting box, using virtual reality.

This Home Run Derby VR Experience was created specifically for this year’s event, according to T-Mobile. With the VR experience for the Home Run Derby, fans will be able to experience how thrilling it can be to blast the ball out of Petco Park in San Diego. T-Mobile has made this experience available through the MLB All-Star Fan Fest that’s being held during the All-Star weekend in San Diego, as well as through 2,200 T-Mobile stores nationwide.

The carrier is also allowing fans to be part of the excitement from the Home Run Derby through the T-Mobile Social Lounge. This is where fans and customers will be able to get insider access to the MLB All-Stars. This includes behind-the-scenes and exclusive sideline chatter using the MLB official social media accounts. This is hosted by MLB All-Star Dexter Fowler. T-Mobile’s President and CEO, John Legere stated that “treating our customers like VIPs and changing the game is what T-Mobile is all about, and that’s exactly what we’re doing at this year’s Home Run Derby!”

If you’re a fan of baseball, then T-Mobile has plenty of goodies available for you for All-Star weekend. Definitely worth checking out if you’re headed to San Diego or are in San Diego for the All-Star game. Of course, T-Mobile will be ramping up their coverage in San Diego and around Petco Park, so that customers can experience the best that their network has to offer. As they typically do with most major sporting events.
