If you have been staring at your phone for long periods of time recently and also happen to find yourself walking outside endlessly, then there is a very good chance that you have downloaded and are playing Pokémon GO, and you are not alone. It seems the game which was only released late last week has literally taken over Android devices, social media feeds and just about everything else. In spite of it only arriving last week, it is already breaking records in terms of the number of downloads and this is a global phenomenon.
In fact, it is not only Android device owners and social media feeds who have caught the Pokémon GO bug as carriers also seem to be highly-focused on catching Pokémon as well. Or at the very least, helping their customers catch Pokémon. For instance, T-Mobile announced earlier today that next week’s T-Mobile Tuesday is going to be heavily Pokémon GO themed with one of the weekly freebies being a year’s worth of zero-rated data for the Pokémon GO app. Now, it is the turn of Sprint.
In contrast to T-Mobile, Sprint is not offering any free data as Sprint does point out that they offer “unlimited data at a fair price“, but what they are offering is on-hand help to Pokémon hunters and presumably whether they are Sprint customers or not. According to the Sprint announcement, from tomorrow Sprint and Boost Mobile retail stores will become Pokémon GO hubs. Lures will be in use at each Sprint and Boost store location, which should mean hanging around one of the stores will bring with it increased access to catch Pokémon. In addition, the stores will be offering free-charging stations so you can ensure your device remains charged while on the hunt. Interestingly, Sprint is also confirming that they will have “knowledgeable on-site Pokémon Go experts” at the stores. Experts who Sprint note will be able to “help beginners learn the game” as well as providing more experienced players “with strategy and location of nearby Gyms and PokéStops”. So if you are playing Pokémon GO and find yourself passing by a Sprint or Boost Mobile location, it might be worth stopping in.
