Rogers has slowly and quietly started to roll out support for Android WiFi Calling – the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was the first device, and then just less than a week ago, Rogers rolled it out to the LG G4. Today, the Galaxy S7 Edge seems to be the next in line as one Rogers user has reported receiving a 266MB update that would allow support Android WiFi Calling. This type of calling is a great convenience for customers that make calls within a building, down in the parking garage, or where there is no signal or a very weak one. Your phone can make the call over the nearby wireless network rather than be trying to go through the 2G – 4GLTE network. Please remember, just because you are calling or SMS texting via WiFi, the number of minutes and texts are deducted from your total monthly plan – there is no free ride here.
This year, Samsung cut down on the number of models by on having one Galaxy S7 Edge with a 5.5-inch display. The device was released in March 2016 and is having a productive run – people just can’t seem to get enough of the dual-curved displays. It has been so popular, that it looks like the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will only come with the dual-curved display. The Galaxy S7 Edge uses Samsung’s Super AMOLED display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and about 534 pixels-per-inch. Samsung incorporated the ‘Always-on’ display to help save battery life. It is IP68 certified against dust and water. A 3600mAh non-removable battery powers the Galaxy S7 Edge.
Samsung used two different processors in the Galaxy S7 Edge – if you live in the US, you will be treated to the Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with dual cores clocked at 1.6GHz and dual cores clocked at 2.15GHz, and if you live outside the US, you will be treated to an Exynos 8890 Octa-core processor. Each model comes with 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 32GB of the faster UFS 2.0 internal memory – expandable to 256GB via a microSD card. Samsung changed the camera area around this year and is using 12MP Dual-Pixels with a large f/1.7 aperture, faster phase detection autofocus (PDAF), LED flash, and OIS. A 5MP handles the front-facing camera (FFC) selfies and video chats. The FFC also keeps the large f/1.7 aperture and auto HDR. The Galaxy S7 Edge has Hi-Res audio for earphone listening, a fingerprint sensor, heart rate monitor and Oxygen saturation sensor.
