Waze, the popular crowd-driven GPS and navigation app that resides on the Android and iOS platforms has just added a Child Reminder alert feature to their beta version of the application. As the name of the new feature suggests, the reminder is an alert to parents, or anyone who is using the app and may be driving around with a baby on board, that they shouldn’t forget the child after leaving the vehicle for whatever reason whether it’s to head into the super market, drop off some packages or generally for any other errand that a person might be trying to get done while they have their kid in the backseat.
As the number of deaths related to this type of scenario is not uncommon, Waze decided to add in the new feature to assist in making it easier for people to remember that they have a child with them and to remove them from the car before they go about their business outside of the car. The alert is customizable so users can set their own message to pop up once the car stops, so whatever will get your attention the most and remind you that you have a little one in the vehicle that’s come along for the ride is what you should type up.
As stated above, to access the feature you’ll have to be on the beta version of the Waze app, and if you fit into that category of users then you’ll find the Child Reminder alert in the settings menu. From there, Child Reminder will have a toggle to enable it or disable it, and once in the Child Reminder sub-menu you can set the alert message that you want to pop up. Waze doesn’t mention when they will be rolling out this new feature to non-beta users, but they are apparently asking people to leave feedback, so it could be a little bit while they gather that feedback before it ends up becoming a part of the standard version of the app that everyone has access to. Having said that, anyone can sign up to be a part of the Waze beta community, which would get them access to new features like these as they’re being tested.
