The Xiaomi Mi 5 is the company’s current flagship smartphone, but that might change soon. This smartphone was introduced back in February during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, and it is currently available in China, India and a number of other regions in Asia. That being said, it seems like Xiaomi is planning to release a new variant of the Mi 5 in the near future, and same can be said for the successor of the Mi Note devices which were announced back in January last year.
We’ve been seeing quite a few rumors and leaks regarding the Xiaomi Mi 5s and Mi Note 2, two devices which are due to arrive in the coming weeks / months. Based on rumors, both of these phones will be fueled by the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core processor, and they will also ship with the advanced pressure sensitive panels up front. We don’t exactly know what this means just yet, but that’s what the reports have been saying. Speaking of which, a new such report surfaced in China, and it comes from IH Technology’s Wang Yang. He shared a post via Weibo (Chinese social network) recently, saying that the Mi 5s and Mi Note 2 will sport ‘glass bodies’. This probably means that Xiaomi intends to use the same build they’ve used for the Xiaomi Mi 5, two glass sheets and a metal chassis in between them. So, even though Wang Yang did not elaborate on his statement, chances are that the Mi 5s will sport the same build as the Mi 5, though it will be bigger. We do expect some changes on the Mi Note 2, but truth be told, this phablet will quite probably resemble the Mi 5 as well.
As already mentioned, these two devices are expected to ship with Qualcomm’s yet unannounced Snapdragon 821 SoC, and in addition to that, you can also expect Android 6.0 Marshmallow to be included here out of the box along with the company’s MIUI 8 OS. The Xiaomi Mi 5s will probably ship with a 5.5-inch fullHD panel and 6GB of RAM. The Mi Note 2, on the other hand, is expected to boast a 5.7-inch display, 4GB / 6GB of RAM and a 4,000mAh battery. The 16-megapixel shooter will probably be included on the back of this phablet, and if recent rumors are to be believed, the most expensive Mi Note 2 variant will cost around $600. Xiaomi did confirm that they intend to launch a ‘new flagship’ later this month, so it remains to be seen what happens, stay tuned.
