Leak: Rumored Specs For The Huawei MediaPad M3 8.0

Huawei’s MediaPad M tablet series just had a few devices drop in the past few months, all variants of the MediaPad M2 family. Started in 2014 with the 8-inch MediaPad M1, the series tends to have staggered releases within a given family, with the May 2015 MediaPad M2 family still going strong, and some of them reaching certain markets quite recently. With these just hitting the market in some areas, the spaced-out release schedule means that the first in the MediaPad M3 family is actually a bit late to the party. That said, the first MediaPad M3 variant, an 8-incher, stars in a questionable new YouTube video.

Curiously, on the same day that the video hit YouTube, the Huawei MediaPad M3 does seem to have hit the FCC. The 8-inch tablet didn’t get much detail in the FCC aside from a label location drawing showing that the obligatory FCC logo which will be going near the bottom of the device, with a Huawei logo near the top. The new video on YouTube however, was a completely different story. Although there are no references and no way to verify the information, the video goes quite in depth on the specs for the device. As with any leak or rumor, of course, the contents of the video should be taken with a grain of salt.

The specs line up in the video point to an upper mid-range device with a bit of a unique twist. The tablet seems to be geared towards multitasking. Its 8-inch panel sports a relatively outdated 1920 x 1200 display resolution, and is given life by a slightly old HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor. This processor, however, is paired up with 4GB of RAM. Together with the low resolution, that’s a combo that could potentially run a number of apps quite fluidly together on one screen, and switch between apps with no trouble or reloading. Other specs include an Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based Emotion UI, along with the usual suspects when it comes to GSM and LTE bands for an international device, allowing it to play nice with a wide variety of worldwide carriers. Along with 32GB of internal storage, the tablet boasts a microSD card slot that can supposedly handle up to 128GB of card-based storage. A 13-megapixel rear camera accompanies an 8-megapixel selfie shooter, along with a lithium-polymer battery of unknown size, capable of quick charging, but not wireless charging. The whole package is supposed to weigh a fairly svelte 250 grams, or just over half a pound.
