Moto may have just announced the all-new Moto Z Play ahead of the IFA, but its parent company, Lenovo, is also working on new smartphones of its own. One such device has now been cleared by the Chinese electronics certification agency, TENAA, giving us a look at some images of the upcoming handset that’s expected to be launched in the market as part of the company’s ‘Vibe’ range. The device, codenamed P2c72, is expected to be marketed as the Lenovo Vibe P2, although that’s yet to be confirmed by official sources. The smartphone had shown up on Geekbench in late July revealing its hardware specs, but the TENAA listing now seems to confirm what we already know about the upcoming smartphone.
As per the TENNA listing, the device will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display and will be powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. While the exact chip isn’t identified by TENAA, the earlier Geekbench listing for the same model revealed that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 625 (MSM8953). The handset will come with 4GB of RAM, something that’s becoming increasingly common in mid-range handsets lately, and is expected to be even more so in the days to come. The phone will come in 32GB and 64GB internal storage options, while the battery will be a massive 5,000mAh unit. Mid-rangers with large batteries are becoming popular in recent times, with devices like the Gionee Marathon M5 and the ASUS ZenFone Max cashing in on the demand for such handsets.
Coming to the imaging options available on the device, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie shooter are expected to round out the preliminary spec sheet of the upcoming Lenovo smartphone. On the software side of things, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow will be pre-installed in the device. Last, but definitely not the least, the device will measure 152mm in length, 76mm in width and 8.29mm in thickness. Carrying a 5,000mAh battery means that it will weigh in at a rather hefty 179 grams, which is all that we know from the TENAA listing for now. Information about the phone’s pricing or release date isn’t in the public domain just yet, but expect more news about it in the coming weeks.
