With the Galaxy Note 7 now official, earlier Samsung flagships are expected to be available at attractive price-points in the weeks and months to come. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were launched just a few months earlier, but with technology progressing at such a rapid pace, a few months have become a long time in the smartphone industry. So it’s no wonder then that the two devices, in spite of being fairly new (in the larger scheme of things), almost seem to have lost that aura around them now that the Note 7 is here. That being the case, T-Mobile announced a flat $200 discount on the two smartphones earlier this week. Now it’s the turn of Sprint to offer an attractive scheme on the same two handsets.
According to a press release from Sprint earlier today, starting from August 5 ‘well-qualified’ customers can get themselves either a Galaxy S7 or a Galaxy S7 Edge for free by buying either one on a monthly installment plan. While the first device will have to be paid for, the second one will be reimbursed by the carrier by way of bill credit over a period of 24 months. To be eligible, users will need to activate a new line and upgrade an older handset that’s been operational on the existing line. Customers will need to pay $27.09 per month for the Galaxy S7, while the S7 Edge will cost $31.25 per month. Customers opting to get two units of the same device will get the second one for free, but those opting to get one of each will have to pay for the more expensive Galaxy S7 Edge and get reimbursed for the Galaxy S7.
One important thing to note here is that Sprint is marketing this scheme as a ‘Back to School’ offer, and therefore advises parents to hop over to its ‘Kids First Phone’ website where they can find expert advice from LCSW and psychotherapist, Katie Hurley, about how to deal with kids when it comes to electronic gadgets like smartphones. Parents can also voluntarily opt to go through a quick online Q&A session to get an idea as to whether their kids are ready to get a smartphone. Through its press release, the carrier also highlighted a number of its apps that help parents stay in touch with their children and remotely monitor their phone usage. Such apps include Sprint Family Locator, Sprint Mobile Controls, Sprint Drive First and Family Wall for Sprint.
