T-Mobile has restructured its JUMP! On Demand pricing of the Galaxy Note 7 for well-qualified customers. While the down payment was initially set at $69.99, the company has now dropped that down to $0 after a string of protests erupted across social media about the company’s pricing plans. The monthly installment, however, has now been increased to $37.50, which is $5 higher than the originally-announced $32.50. The adjustment means that the total cost of the device over the two-year period will now actually come to $900 instead of the $849.99 with the earlier pricing. The company, meanwhile, has announced that customers who’ve already booked their Note 7 units will be able to switch over to the new cost by contacting customer care. The device has already been up for pre-order at all major U.S. carriers since yesterday, and is expected to be officially available from August 19th.
Apart from the carriers, the Galaxy Note 7 is currently up for pre-order at most major online and offline retailers in the country, including Best Buy, Amazon, Car Toys, Sam’s Club, Target and some select Walmart stores. The device is also available at all Samsung Experience Stores in the country. One interesting thing is that Samsung is offering a number of attractive freebies with the device as part of its launch offer. Those who order the Galaxy Note 7 on or before August 28th will be eligible to get either a 256GB Samsung microSD card or a Gear Fit2 fitness tracker for free. Customers buying the device from T-Mobile will also be eligible to choose a year’s subscription of Netflix instead of opting for either of the other two options. While the Netflix subscription is valued at $120, the Gear Fit2 comes with a $180 price-tag. The 256GB microSD card, meanwhile, comes with an MSRP of $250.
The Note 7, of course, is Samsung’s latest premium smartphone that was unveiled earlier this week at the company’s ‘Unpacked’ event in New York City. The device comes with at least one unique feature not seen before in a mainstream smartphone. While fingerprint scanners have become a staple of even entry-level smartphones these days, the Galaxy Note 7 is looking to up the game by including an iris scanner, which is certainly a novel idea. Only time will tell how the new hardware will actually perform in the real world, though.
