70% Of Canadian Galaxy Note 7 Users Have Heeded The Recall

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 global recall is definitely a hot topic at the moment, with the South Korean company having already launched its exchange program in regions such as South Korea and the US. This recall was first announced after numerous reports regarding devices exploding while being charged started to emerge. Samsung then began issuing recalls in regions around the world, including Canada, where the recall was announced on September 12. Now, the company has revealed that 70% of Galaxy Note 7 owners in the country have registered to join the exchange program. According to Health Canada, a total of 21,953 Galaxy Note 7 units were sold in Canada between August 19th and September 1st.

Starting from last week, Samsung began to ship the new and safe units to Canada and users will be able to differentiate these units from the faulty ones by taking a look at the color of the battery indicator. The battery indicator on faulty units will be white in color, while the new units will come with a green battery indicator. Also, if you are using a faulty unit in Canada, Samsung will be pushing out a mandatory software update to all affected units. Through this software update, you will receive a notification from Samsung advising you to power down your device and avoid charging it. This notification will pop up on your screen every three hours and whenever you try to power on or charge your faulty Galaxy Note 7.

If you own an affected Galaxy Note 7, do return your device to your point of purchase, be it Samsung, a retailer, or a carrier, and get an exchange as soon as possible, to avoid any incidents which may cause bodily injuries or damage to property. According to Samsung, the battery in affected Galaxy Note 7 units have the tendency to overheat which might start a fire or even explode. While the recall is still an ongoing process, sale of the new Galaxy Note 7 has already started in places such as the US, where the device can be bought from carriers such as Sprint and Verizon. The device will also be put back on shelves in South Korea, starting September 28.
