YouTube Gaming is one of a few apps that YouTube has, outside of its main app. YouTube Gaming is mostly focused on, gaming. And it just received a new update, bringing it to version 1.7, which you can download at the link below and side-load onto your smartphone. Many might be wondering what’s new in this update to YouTube Gaming, well there’s quite a bit that’s new.
The official changelog that the YouTube Gaming team put out, lists that there is a redesigned chat, sporting an all-new look. The team also made plenty of under-the-hood chat improvements here. There’s also better support for Android 7.0 Nougat, and of course the usual bug fixes and performance improvements are here.
Chat did get an overhaul here, but there’s not a whole lot of changes really. In the previous version, Chat was a third tab on live streams. Now, it’s a drawer that sits at the bottom of the UI that you can drag up to jump into. The avatars for those that are chatting in the live stream has also seen a small change. They are slightly smaller, compared to the previous version. While watching a stream in full screen, chat is still on the left side, but it has a slightly lighter background, compared to the previous version of YouTube Gaming. The chat boxes are also sporting some slightly rounded edges, with avatars also appearing. Avatars weren’t appearing in previous versions of the app.
YouTube Gaming v1.7 is available on the Google Play Store now. With most Google apps, there is a staged rollout. Meaning that the update may not actually be available for you for a couple of days. But luckily, you do have the ability to side-load the APK onto your device and getting the latest version of the app. You can download the APK from the link below. You’ll want to head into Settings > Security and then make sure that “Unknown Sources” is checked. Otherwise you won’t be able to install the APK. If you already have YouTube Gaming installed, it will simply write over the installed version on your device.
