Every Day Samsung Spends €30 Million on R&D

These days, Samsung is known by the majority of people for their high-end smartphones that the world enjoys on a daily basis. With the likes of the Galaxy S7 Edge and the new Galaxy Note 7, it’s not hard to see why, but Samsung is of course known for a lot more than that, and many of you reading this might have a number of different Samsung items in your home. Known for quality TV sets, as well as consumer electronics such as washing machines, refrigerators and a whole lot more, Samsung is a massive force in the consumer electronics world. As the saying goes however, “it’s tough at the top” and Samsung is no stranger to their fair share of difficulties. After announcing yesterday’s Gear S3, Samsung is having a day of consumer electronics releases.

As is often the case, it costs a lot of money to stay at the top of the ladder, and Samsung has announced during their IFA 2016 press conference that the South Korean giant spends €30 Million on research and development each and every day around the world. That’s a pretty impressive figure for any big brand out there, and while Samsung does have a hell of a lot of cash to play with, this is a pretty solid commitment to try and find the next big thing out there. During the same press event, Samsung told us that 7 out of 10 European households had one or more Samsung smartphone and 1 out of 3 families watched the EURO 2016 and Rio Olympics on a Samsung TV. Where domestic appliances are concerned however, Samsung has grown five times faster than the industry average, and they told the crowd in Berlin that they had been industry leaders in the TV game for the past decade.

This has been of course a pat on the back for Samsung, and one from themselves no less, but to spend that amount of money on research and development is pretty impressive. As Samsung continues to push forward with the likes of flexible displays, the new Iris Scanner in the Galaxy Note 7 and ever-faster smartphones, Samsung is no doubt ahead of the curve, and news like this is always encouraging to see what a company like Samsung has in store for the next year and beyond.
