Fossil Ships First Snapdragon Wear 2100-Powered Smartwatches

In February, Qualcomm announced their second-generation chipset that was aimed at wearables. It’s known as the Snapdragon Wear 2100. This processor is meant to be smaller and more power efficient than the Snapdragon 400 which appears to be powering the majority of the smartwatches that are on the market right now – especially Android Wear-powered smartwatches. Today, at IFA 2016 in Berlin, Fossil and Qualcomm announced that they are first to market with smartwatches using the Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor. Which are the Fossil Q Marshal and Q Wander smartwatches, both of which are running Android Wear.

The Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset is a full-featured processor which was designed specifically for wearables running Android Wear. It’s a much smaller processor, compared to others on the market, which means that companies are able to make their smartwatches smaller and more elegant, or pack in a larger battery. The Snapdragon Wear 2100 also boasts a range of connectivity options. Including low power GNSS and an ultra-low power sensor hub that is highly integrated into the processor, giving you a truly smart experience with your smartwatch. Those that pick up the Fossil Q Marshal or Q Wander can expect a brilliant looking always-on display, as well as seamless connectivity, always-on sensing and extended battery life. Something that many smartwatch users are going to appreciate.

Now the Fossil Q Marshal and Q Wander are actually already available, online. But they will be heading to brick and mortar stores in mid-September. These two smartwatches are officially the first products to hit the market with the Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, but according to Qualcomm they aren’t the only ones coming out this Fall. There are plenty more in the pipeline, that will be out fairly soon. If you’re not willing to wait a few more weeks for both of these to hit stores (so you can check them out in person), they are available on Amazon right now starting at $295. As usual with smartwatches, the price will depend on the model that you pick out. However, they appear to range between $295 and $315 right now. Actually putting them on the lower-end side, price-wise, of the Android Wear spectrum.
