It’s no secret that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge are some of the most popular smartphones of 2016. Released earlier this year, these two flagships received praise from both consumers and critics alike and have generally sold quite well. How well, exactly? Well, as the analytics firm Kantar World Panel recently revealed, its latest market analysis concludes that the Galaxy S7 was the second-best-selling smartphone in the US during the three-month period ending in July. More specifically, 9% of all smartphone sales made during that time frame were of the Galaxy S7, which is a number that’s only topped by the iPhone 6s which accounted for 11% of all US phone sales in the same period. That’s a rather impressive number considering the fact that the Galaxy S7 was not only competing with the latest iPhone but also a plethora of other flagship Android devices as well.
Namely, the fact that the S7 is so close to the iPhone 6s in terms of sales is even more stunning when one considers the fact that Apple isn’t competing with anyone else in the mobile operating system (OS) department. People who want an iOS device buy an iPhone, there are no alternatives. However, those who want an Android phone have plenty of devices to choose from so the fact that the Galaxy S7 managed to top all of the other competitors despite a price tag that’s anything but cheap is definitely praiseworthy. Unfortunately, Kantar World Panel made no attempt to estimate an approximate number of sold units within its new report. The latest info regarding these sales numbers dates back to mid-June when certain Korean outlets reported that the Galaxy S7 sales will reach 25 million units by the end of June. Regardless of that, there’s no doubt that both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are doing great as two months ago, Samsung reported their biggest earnings in the last two years, naming these two flagships as the leading contributing factor.
While the South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer has already launched another flagship phone—the Galaxy Note 7—it remains to be seen whether this phablet will be able to repeat the success of Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge and even more so when considering that certain models are being recalled due to issues related to the battery.
