The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is quite possibly the most popular Android-powered phablet device out there. This handset was introduced at the beginning of last month, and it seemed like it will be a smashing success at first. Well, it turns out that a number of Galaxy Note 7 units were shipped with malfunctioning batteries and Samsung had to recall the Galaxy Note 7 globally. The mobile internet consulting firm, iiMedia Research, completed a study in China quite recently. As a part of it, they’ve interviewed a number of people regarding the Galaxy Note 7, and it turns out that 51.9% of them responded that they would not purchase Samsung smartphones following the Galaxy Note 7’s recent issues, it seems like those explosions did have a significant impact on consumers after all, at least in China. The company had interviewed 12,000 people as part of this study, and 37% of them said that they would consider buying one of Apple’s iPhone smartphones in order to replace their Samsung-branded device. In addition to that, 26.3% of interviewed people said that they might purchase one of Huawei’s smartphones in order to replace their Samsung handsets.
Now, according to industry experts, Samsung’s recent issues will definitely impact the company’s sales in China, and they expect Huawei, OPPO, Xiaomi and Apple to benefit because of it. Samsung is not exactly a market leader in China, the company was actually a sixth-placed OEM in China last quarter, at least according to IDC. The company was planning to improve its position in China, but it seems like the Galaxy Note 7’s recent issues will have a negative impact on their plans. In any case, it will be interesting to see how many Galaxy Note 7 units will the company be able to sell in China before the end of this year, and will the company lose market share because of the Galaxy Note 7 and its recent issues.
