UMi Plus Extreme To Be The First Helio P20-Powered Handset

The UMi Super had been introduced earlier this year, and thus far it has been quite a success for the company, especially outside of China it seems. We’ve recently reviewed this smartphone just in case you’re interested in checking out what it has to offer. That being said, the company had recently introduced the UMi Plus, yet another really compelling metal-clad smartphone, and yesterday we talked about another version of this phone, the ‘Extreme UMi Plus’. The company had confirmed its partial specifications via Facebook, and basically told us that this handset will be introduced recently.

Having that in mind, we have some new info regarding this smartphone to share with you, as the company has just reached out to us confirming that this handset will be the first smartphone ever fueled by the Helio P20 64-bit octa-core processor. In addition to that, the company referred to the phone as the ‘UMi Plus Extreme’ this time around, so it seems like that might be its final name. Anyhow, we knew that the Helio P20 will fuel this smartphone as per UMi’s news yesterday, but we did not know that it will be the first ever to come with this processor. It seems like UMi signed a deal with MediaTek in order to make this official. MediaTek’s Helio P10 64-bit octa-core SoC is actually a mid-range processor which had been included in a number of phones ever since it was released, mainly Chinese phones. This processor is actually quite capable, and yet affordable, and its successor will be somewhat more powerful it seems. Its Cortex A53 cores (8 of them) will be clocked at 2.3GHz, and will offer a 20% better performance than the Helio P10 it seems. TheMali T880MP2 will ship with this SoC, which is a 25% (performance) upgrade over the Mali T860MP2 which came with the Helio P10.

Now, as for the UMi Plus Extreme, the company had confirmed that it will ship with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the Helio P20 will do the processing part of the equation, as already mentioned. This handset will be made out of metal, and it will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with a couple of software additions from the company. The phone will be priced at $299.99, and UMi is expected to introduce it soon.
