BlackBerry was once one of the largest companies in the mobile space. Their handsets were quite popular, very capable and quite expensive, to say the least. BlackBerry had failed to adapt to the new era in the mobile world though, and their device more or less faded away after a while. The company had tried to regain market share be releasing a new version of their own OS, and have failed at that, and then they turned to Android. The BlackBerry Priv, their first ever Android-powered smartphone, was well received, but didn’t exactly sell all that well. BlackBerry had decided to stick with Android, and it seems they intend to launch a new smartphone really soon, read on.
The BlackBerry DTEK60 had paid a visit to the FCC a while back, and the phone had leaked several times now. Well, a number of new images just popped up, and you can check them out in the gallery down below. Now, do keep in mind that this handset will be manufactured by TCL, a company which had manufactured the BlackBerry DTEK50, and also manufactures Alcatel’s devices. In any case, this smartphone’s edges are slightly curved, and we’re looking at a high-end device here. According to the available info, the BlackBerry DTEK60 will sport a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core SoC will fuel this smartphone, and a 3,000mAh battery will be available here as well. The 21-megapixel snapper will be placed on the back of this device, and below it the company plans to include a fingerprint scanner, as you can see in the provided images. An 8-megapixel snapper will be included here for your selfie and video call needs, and chances are this handset will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
The BlackBerry DTEK60 will launch in Canada on October 11th, for those of you who are wondering, and it will cost $530 ($699 CAD) if the leaked info is accurate. Now, we still don’t know when will this handset land in the US, but it is possible that the company plans to launch it in both Canada and the US at the same time, we’ll see.
