Analyst: Huawei Mate 9 To Ship With 20MP & 12MP Main Cameras

The Mate 9 is Huawei’s upcoming flagship phablet. This handset will be a direct successor to the Huawei Mate 8 which was introduced at the end of last year, and it has been leaking out for months now, but the leaks have intensified in the last couple of weeks. That being said, the company had released a number of teasers lately, including a TV commercial which teased great battery life for the Huawei Mate 9. We also know that this phablet will be introduced on November 3rd in Munich, Germany. We’ll probably see a number of new rumors / leaks and teasers before that happens however, and one such rumor just surfaced, read on.

Pan Jiutang is a well-known China-based analyst which usually makes all sorts of predictions before one of China’s largest OEMs introduce their devices, and today is no different. Mr. Jiutang went on to say that the Huawei Mate 9 will sport two camera sensors on its back, the 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel snappers. As a reminder, the Huawei P9 devices shipped with two 12-megapixel shooters on the back, so it seems like the company is upping the ante, though we’re wondering what 20-megapixel shooter are we looking at here, as Mr. Jiutang did not mention what pixel size will the two cameras have, nor what kind of an aperture are we looking at here, he did not mention any sort of additional info when it comes to Mate 9’s camera sensors. We presume that the 12-megapixel shooter will be identical to the one that you can find on the Huawei P9, which means this sensor will sport 1.25um pixel size, and an f/2.2 aperture, while we’re looking at a 27mm lens size. You can expect these two cameras to ship with Leica’s lenses, and chances are these will be Sony’s sensors on the inside.

Now, in addition to the dual camera setup, Mr. Jiutang also mentioned that the Huawei Mate 9 will ship with a fingerprint scanner, though he did not say anything about the Mate 9’s display. As you might recall, two renders leaked recently, one showing off a handset with a flat screen and no home button below the display, and the other one showing off a handset with a curved display and a home button below the display. The first one is expected to be called the Huawei Mate 9, while the other one is allegedly named Huawei Mate 9 Pro. Keep in mind these are just rumors, so take this info with a grain of salt.
