Samsung’s problems with the Galaxy Note 7 are far from over if new reports are anything to go by, but the South Korean consumer electronics giant is said to be working on its next-gen flagship that should, hopefully, have better luck than the company’s ill-fated new phablet. While Samsung skipped a version number for its latest Galaxy Note handset going from the Galaxy Note 5 directly to the Galaxy Note 7, the company is expected to stick to the Galaxy S8 name for its eighth-generation Galaxy S-series flagship. While the device is still months away from being made public, rumors regarding the handset have already started trickling in from different sources, although, it’s hard to tell the facts from the fiction at this point in time.
While earlier rumors regarding the Galaxy S8 had suggested that the device will feature a curved 4K display for a more enjoyable VR experience, the latest rumor seems to suggest that the upcoming smartphone will have a completely bezel-less display that will come with a fingerprint scanner integrated into the panel itself. That, in theory at least, should allow Samsung to do away with the physical home button that has been a constant feature in all Samsung Galaxy smartphones at all segments of the market. Interestingly, the rumor coming out of South Korea actually claims that the display panel on the Galaxy S8 will not only have curved edges on its two sides like the Galaxy S7 Edge, but also on the top and bottom, which could make it a completely bezel-free smartphone on all four sides.
Now whether Samsung will actually incorporate such a radical new design in its new flagship remains to be seen, but at least one other rumor regarding the upcoming device does seem more plausible. According to reports, the Galaxy S8 may also be the first Samsung smartphone to embrace what many of its competitors, including LG and Apple, have already done with some of their latest models. The Galaxy S8 will apparently have a dual camera setup at the rear for even better imaging capabilities than the current-gen Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge handsets which are widely regarded as two of the best camera-phones money can buy right now.
