Google Home is Google’s newly-announced, minimalistic speaker which comes with Google Assistant integration. The company had talked about this speaker for the first time back in May during Google I/O, when they not only unveiled the device, but also demoed it for all of us to see what it is capable of. Well, the company has just introduced this speaker during their press conference, along with their new smartphones. This speaker is a direct competitor to Amazon’s Alexa-powered speakers, and its goal is to help you control your smart devices that are placed in your home. Google Home’s Google Assistant will listen to what you have to say and will basically let you turn on / off lights, music, fire up your smart TV, etc. The usage scenarios for this device are basically limitless.
That being said, Google has announced that the device will cost $129, though this is its price in the US, its price point will vary from market to market, of course. Speaking of which, we still don’t know when will this speaker launch outside of the US, other than it will hit Canada sometime in November. Google Home is launching in the US on November 4th, and we guess that Google plans to bring the device to more markets (Germany, Australia and the UK) later that month, or perhaps in December. We’re only guessing though, as the company did not release such info yet. We’ll make sure to let you know as soon as they do though. Google Assistant which comes pre-installed on this device supports music streaming from Google Play Music, YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn and iHeartRadio.
There you have it, the Google Home speaker is now official, and it will be interesting to see how well it will sell. There are a couple of such offerings out in the market already, though they do not ship with Google Assistant, which seems to be a really compelling reason to get Google Home. The comparison between Amazon’s Alexa-powered devices and Google Home will be especially interesting, which one has more to offer? Well, we’ll find that out in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
