Google debuted its first ‘Daydream-ready’ viewing device, the Daydream View at its Pixel event which took place on October 4. Google’s Daydream View is expected to be properly launched in November, but for now, Verizon has listed the VR headset for pre-order via its online store. So if you did not pre-order one of Google’s new Pixel smartphones (which comes with a free Daydream View), you can pre-order one now from Verizon.
The carrier is selling the Daydream View for $79.99 and it comes with free shipping. The estimated time of delivery is November 16, which is about a month from now. However, it should be noted that the Daydream View from Verizon only comes in one color, which is Slate. Google announced the Daydream View in three different color variants, and it is likely Verizon will sell the other two colors (Snow and Crimson) later this year and once the VR headset is launched. As the Daydream View is an accessory for your Pixel or Pixel XL smartphone, there are no device payment plans being offered with it. Google’s Daydream View headset comes with a built in 220 mAh battery with a run-time of up to 12 hours. It also uses power from the device it’s connected to, in this case the Pixel or the Pixel XL as they are largely the only Daydream-ready phones available at the moment, and also requires the device’s display for viewing Daydream content. The Daydream View comes with it’s own remote control which can be used for navigation of the Daydream UI and control of the content. The Daydream View is made from soft, breathable fabric which makes the VR headset lightweight, which in turn should result in the unit being fairly comfortable to wear. On top of that, the face pad is hand-washable, allowing you to clean it when the need arises. Connectivity options include Bluetooth and a USB Type-C port is available to charge the VR headset, though a USB Type-C connector is not included in the packaging.
