Leak: Exynos 8890-Powered Meizu PRO 6 Plus Canceled?

Meizu had released a couple of really compelling smartphones this year, including their Meizu PRO 6 flagship which was introduced back in April. That being said, Meizu was expected to introduce the Exynos 8890-powered handset before the end of this year, which was supposed to be called the Meizu PRO 7, but the company’s VP, Li Nan, said that won’t happen a while back, as the PRO 7 release was scheduled for next year. That’s when the Meizu PRO 6 Plus rumors started popping up, a couple of rumors said that the Meizu PRO 6 Plus is coming this year, and that it will ship with the Exynos 8890 onboard. Well, it seems like those rumors were either not true, or the company changed their mind somewhere along the way, read on.

Once again, the Meizu’s VP, Li Nan, is in the middle of everything, as a screenshot of his chat session leaked. In this conversation, Meizu’s VP is tell telling Xiao Bai, one of Meizu’s execs, that there are some issues with 4G LTE connectivity in the SoC (Exynos 8890), and that the company will not release a smartphone fueled by this processor. Now, if legit, this screenshot more or less confirms that we won’t be getting the Exynos 8890-powered smartphone this year, and chances are that Meizu won’t launch such a smartphone at all. Unfortunately, this conversation does not mention the Meizu PRO 6s either, another handset that was mentioned in recent leaks. The Meizu PRO 6s was supposed to ship with the Helio P20 64-bit octa-core processor, MediaTek’s next-gen upper-mid-range SoC, along with a 5.2-inch fullHD Super AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. This smartphone was also expected to pack in a 21-megapixel shooter on the back, and a 5-megapixel camera on its front side. The Meizu PRO 6s will probably launch later this month though, as expected, even though Li Nan did not mention it.

Now, as far as the allegedly canceled Meizu PRO 6 Plus is concerned, that phone was supposed to be a direct successor to the Meizu PRO 5, at least based on its leaked spec sheet. The Meizu PRO 6 Plus was expected to sport a 5.7-inch fullHD or QHD display, 4GB / 6GB of RAM and the Exynos 8890 64-bit octa-core processor. On the back of this phone, the company was expected to include a 12-megapixel camera, and the device’s display was said to be curved on both its left and right side, similar to the panel included on the Galaxy S7 Edge.
