Two Meizu-branded smartphones have been leaking like crazy recently, the Meizu PRO 6s and the Meizu M5. The Meizu PRO 6s will resemble the Meizu PRO 6 quite a bit, at least according to the company’s VP who shared an image of the device recently, and by doing that, he revealed what will the phone’s back look like. In any case, the Meizu PRO 6s will be fueled by a MediaTek SoC, though we still don’t know what chip exactly, nor will it be more powerful than the Meizu PRO 6 (Meizu’s flagship). The Meizu M5, on the other hand, is expected to be yet another mid-range offering by Meizu, and a successor to the Meizu M3 (it seems like Meizu is skipping the Meizu M4 branding). This smartphone had surfaced a couple of times now, and the phone just got certified by TENAA (Chinese equivalent to the FCC), read on.
Before any smartphone launches in China, it needs to go through TENAA and get certified, so more often than not, we spot such listings on TENAA, and are able to find out not only what the phone will look like, but also what specifications will it ship with. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll get to see the Meizu M5 in the flesh, and you’ll notice that the phone is made out of polycarbonate (or at least it seems like it), and that is somewhat surprising, Meizu usually releases metal-clad smartphones. In any case, this handset resembles its siblings quite a bit, and the company’s mBack home key is located below the display. Now, as far as specs are concerned, the Meizu M5 features a 5.2-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, along with 2GB / 3GB / 6GB of RAM and 16GB / 32GB / 64GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card). The device is fueled by MediaTek’s MT6750 64-bit octa-core SoC running at 1.5GHz, and a 3,000mAh battery is also a part of this package. The 13-megapixel snapper is placed on the back of this device, and a 5-megapixel shooter can be found on the phone’s front side. Interesting enough, TENAA reports that the device will ship with YunOS 5.1.1 out of the box, and we were expecting Flyme to come pre-installed on this handset (on top of Android). In any case, the Meizu M5 measures 147.3 x 72.8 x 8.2mm, while it weighs 138 grams.
We did not expect this smartphone to be made out of polycarbonate, but based on the provided images, it sure will. Another interesting, and welcomed, surprise is the 6GB RAM model which will be available if TENAA is to be believed, which means that the Meizu M5 will be the first Meizu-branded handset to ship with 6GB of RAM. The Meizu M5 is expected to arrive on October 31st, as Meizu had already scheduled a press conference.
