PlayStation Vue is another option for those looking to ‘cut the cord’. However, until recently, the availability of PlayStation Vue was largely limited to only a select few consumers. Namely, owners of the PlayStation 3 or 4 consoles. However, over the past few months support for the service has been expanding and back in June of this year, PlayStation made the service available on Android with the launch of the PlayStation Vue app to the Google Play Store. This week however, that support has expanded further as PlayStation Vue is also now available to owners of an Android TV device.
For those thinking about taking up a subscription, there are currently four main options available. The most affordable is the ‘Access’ Plan. This one comes with over 55 channels and costs $29.99 per month. Apparently, that price does increase in certain cities to $39.99 though. So while this will depend on where you are, the majority of users should easily be able to access the $29.99 plan. The next step-up is to the ‘Core’ plan. This one increases in price to $34.99 (again $44.99 in select cities) and for that price you gain access to over 70 channels. If you want more channels then the ‘Elite’ plan which costs $44.99 per month ($54.99 in select cities) will provide access to over 100 channels. While the big plan is the ‘Ultra’ package. This once comes with the same TV channel selection as the Elite plan, although for the extra $20 per month you also gain access to both HBO and SHOWTIME. Which is not too bad if they are two channels that you would be looking at picking up regardless. Either way. PlayStation is currently offering a seven-day free trial period so there is little harm in testing out the service and seeing if it is right for you before having to pay for it.
For those that do want to give the new service a try on Android TV, then it looks like the app is supported on most, if not all, Android TV devices including the NVIDIA SHIELD, Nexus Player, Mi Box and the range of Android TV-powered TV sets. On a side note, the announcement does detail that PlayStation Vue will also become available ‘soon’ on PC and Mac, although firm details on when were not provided.
