Xiaomi Announces Mi VR Headset Which Costs Only $29

Xiaomi has announced plenty of hardware during the company’s press conference today, including two smartphones and a VR headset. The company has introduced the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and Xiaomi Mi MIX flagship phablets, the Mi Note 2 was expected to arrive, and it sports a curved OLED display up front, while it comes with premium specs as well. The Xiaomi Mi MIX, on the other hand, was not expected, and it was a pleasant surprise by Xiaomi, as this is a bezel-less handset, sort of, it has some bezel only below the display. The Xiaomi Mi MIX is, much like the Mi Note 2, a flagship handset. You can read more about these two phones in our official announcements which are linked above, we’re here to talk about the third device Xiaomi had introduced, the Xiaomi Mi VR headset, read on.

The Xiaomi Mi VR headset is exactly what you think it is, the company’s virtual reality headset. This headset comes in only one variant, a combination of black and white colors. It looks quite futuristic, and also refined at the same time. The Mi VR headset includes a hardware-level motion sensor, and it has a 16ms ultra-low latency, while the 9-axis inertial motion controller is also included in the package. This virtual reality headset is compatible with the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus and the Mi 5, so pretty much every high-end device the company had introduced this year, aside from the Xiaomi Mi MIX, but we’re sure that the company’s newly-announced bezel-less offering will be compatible with Mi VR as well. Now, the company’s MIUI VR platform will make sure you have some apps to play around with, as it includes over 500 panoramic videos, over 30 (VR) apps, and 200+ developers have registered to develop for the platform (thus far).

So, you’re probably wondering what’s the price we’re looking at here? Well, the Mi VR headset costs 199 Yuan ($29), which is incredibly affordable. This is its price in China, of course, though we’re sure that it will become available in other regions soon as well, the company did not mention anything about that during the press conference, though. In any case, stay tuned, we’ll report back soon.
