Xiaomi Mi MIX Is Company's High-End, Bezel-Less Phablet

As many of you know by now, Xiaomi has introduced their flagship phablet today, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. The company has announced this smartphone during their press event in China, and it is exactly what we’ve expected it to be, though it’s more affordable than some rumors have suggested it will be. The phone comes in several variants, it can be purchased in both 4GB and 6GB RAM variants, and they company has even announced a variant which works with global LTE bands. In any case, if you’d like to know more about the Mi Note 2, check out our official announcement and specification articles, as we’re here to talk about something else the company announced during the event, read on.

In addition to announcing their new flagship phablet, Xiaomi has also introduced their ‘concept’ phablet, the Xiaomi Mi MIX. This is not exactly a concept device as it has been announced as the company’s already existing product, along with its pricing, but it sure looks like a concept device, which is probably why the company referred to it as such. This phablet sports a 6.4-inch display with a staggering 91.3% screen-to-body ratio, all of its bezels are extremely thin (top, left and right bezels are basically non-existent), and the one below the display is the thickest one. The phone looks really nice, and the company has incorporated a custom front-facing snapper which is 50% smaller than the regular camera sensor, which allowed them to keep the bezels so thin, well, that’s just a part of the picture, of course. This smartphone is made out of ceramic, and Philippe Starck designed it, a world-renowned designer. Xiaomi has said that this phablet is fueled by the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core SoC running at 2.35GHz, same as the one included on the Mi Note 2. The phone comes with 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 2.0 internal storage, and a 4,400mAh battery is included here, while you’ll be able to use Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging in order to charge this phone. The 16-megapixel shooter is placed on the back of the Xiaomi Mi MIX, and a 5-megapixel snapper can be found on its front side. The 24bit Hi-Fi audio is included in this phone as well, which is also something it has in common with the Mi Note 2. The Xiaomi Mi MIX comes with 4G’ support as well, as it supports speeds of up to 600Mbps.

Now, you’re probably wondering how much this phone costs, well, as already mentioned, it comes in both 4GB and 6GB RAM variants (the 6GB RAM model is called the ‘Xiaomi Mi MIX Pro’), the former comes with 128GB of storage, while the latter one sports 256GB of native storage. That being said, the more affordable model is priced at 3,499 Yuan ($517), while the more expensive one costs 3,999 Yuan ($590). Xiaomi indirectly apologized for high pricing by saying this is a one of a kind smartphone, and due to its build and everything included in the price, they were unable to lower the price any further. In addition to this, it is also worth mentioning that the Gold variant of this phone is also in play, a 18K gold model, though we don’t know much about it at the moment.

UPDATE: The company has released only two variants of the Mi MIX, the regular 4GB RAM + 128GB storage model, and the 6GB RAM + 256GB storage variant which comes with the 18K gold finish on the frame. So, every 6GB RAM model comes with this gold finish, the third variant does not exist, initial info was inaccurate.
